Wish your technology would just work?

Technology doesn’t have to be confusing.

I’m Jay, and I run Brecon Digital Support.

I live here in Brecon and provide friendly, one-to-one technology help in your own home, across Brecon and the surrounding area.

Maybe you’ve bought a new phone and don’t know where to start. Perhaps your printer has stopped working, you can’t find your photos, you’re struggling with Microsoft Word or Excel, or you’ve received a message that you’re worried might be a scam.

Sometimes you simply need someone to sit down with you and show you how something works. That’s what I’m here for.

No jargon. No rushing. No making you feel silly for asking questions. Just patient, friendly help, at your own pace.

What can I help you with?

I can help with the everyday technology you use at home, including:

  • Smartphones, tablets and computers
  • New phone, tablet or computer setup
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other everyday software
  • Emails, passwords and online accounts
  • Wi-Fi, broadband and printers
  • Photos, documents and file organisation
  • Video calls with family and friends
  • Smart TVs and streaming services
  • Online banking and shopping
  • NHS and Government websites
  • Scam messages, suspicious emails and online safety
  • Backups and protecting your important files
  • Smart home devices and everyday technology
  • Learning how to use technology you’ve never quite got to grips with

No question is too small.

Whether it’s “Where have my photos gone?”, “Why won’t this printer work?”, “How do I make this spreadsheet add up?”, “How do I video call my family?” or “Is this text message a scam?”, I’m always happy to help.

Patient help, at your pace

Technology can be particularly frustrating when everything seems to have changed overnight.

A new phone doesn’t work like your old one. A software update moves something you’ve always known where to find. Your broadband provider sends you a new router. Suddenly your printer won’t connect.

It can be tempting to give up, but you don’t have to. I’ll take the time to listen, understand what you’re trying to do and work through it with you, step by step.

You don’t need to know the technical terms. You don’t need to apologise for asking something that seems obvious.

If you don’t understand it, I’ll explain it differently. And if you need me to show you again, I’ll show you again.

I don’t just fix the problem. I help you understand it.

This is an important part of how I work. If something isn’t working, I’ll do my best to sort it out. But I don’t simply fix it and leave.

I’ll explain what I’ve done and, wherever possible, show you how to do it yourself next time. If we’ve covered something that you might forget, I’ll also provide a simple personalised guide, at no extra charge.

These guides are written specifically for you, using plain English and, where useful, screenshots showing exactly what to click. So if you forget what we did next week, next month or six months from now, you’ve got something you can refer back to.

My aim isn’t to make you dependent on me. It’s to help you become more confident and independent with your technology.

A local service for local people

I am based in Brecon and provide home visits throughout Brecon and the surrounding area.

I regularly help people in places including: Brecon, Builth Wells, Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Llandovery, Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding villages.

If you’re not sure whether I cover your area, just ask. I’ll always let you know.

For locations outside my usual service area, a small travel charge may apply. I’ll let you know about this before arranging a visit.

For families who live further away

Do your parents or another family member need a little help with technology, but you don’t live nearby?

You’re not alone. Many people have adult children who live elsewhere and can’t always be there when Mum, Dad or another relative gets stuck with technology.

It can be reassuring to know there’s someone local who can visit, help patiently and provide a familiar point of contact when you can’t be there yourself.

Before arranging a visit, I’m always happy to speak with you by phone or video call. You can explain what’s happening, ask any questions and decide whether I’m the right person to help.

Sometimes the most reassuring thing is simply knowing that there is someone local you can trust.

Someone local you can trust

I know that inviting someone into your home to help with your technology requires trust.

Before starting Brecon Digital Support, I worked in healthcare, caring for patients in operating theatres. I later became a university lecturer, helping students learn new skills and build confidence. More recently, I worked in cyber security for the world’s largest building society, leading a team responsible for helping protect people’s information and money.

I’ve spent my career in roles where people needed to be able to trust me. Today, I bring those experiences together through Brecon Digital Support.

I’m local, I’m approachable, and your privacy and security matter to me.

For example, I will never ask you to give me your passwords or PIN numbers. If we need to log into an account, you remain in control of entering your own credentials.

Worried about scams or suspicious messages?

Scams are becoming increasingly convincing, and it’s understandable to feel unsure when an unexpected email, text message or phone call doesn’t look quite right.

If something worries you, don’t panic and don’t click anything you’re unsure about.

I can help you understand what to look out for, how to recognise common scams and how to protect your accounts, passwords and personal information.

And for existing clients, if you receive a suspicious message or simply forget how to do something I’ve previously shown you, you’re welcome to give me a call. If it can be sorted out with a quick bit of advice over the phone, there’s no charge.

Sometimes five minutes of reassurance is worth much more than hours of worrying
